简介: 1979年10月26日!  那天,展开前所未闻的事件的那时那些人们。  “今天,我来办!”  由于直升机没有位置,中央情报部金部长没有和总统一起去参加活动而来到医院做检查,他的主治医生告诉他健康状况不理想,劝金部长暂时休息。途中听到总统突然要举行晚餐聚会消息的金部长,立即决定和随行秘书一起前往宫廷洞。晚餐已经开始,看到平常和自己有矛盾的保卫部长目中无人的态度,金部长自尊心受到了伤害。趁别人不注意他叫出了自己的左膀右臂周课长和敏大领,告诉他们要暗杀总统的计划。  “有什么好办法吗?OK!去吧!”  金部长的得力助手周课长今天也忙着收拾令人头痛的事情,对于这样的生活他已经烦透了。加上突然的晚餐通知,让他心中充满抱怨。在晚餐途中金部长突然叫自己和敏大领,并告知了一个惊人的消息!  “让你做你就去做!这是课长的命令!”  回到保卫室的周课长全副武装并向四个部下下达命令。只要是命令就无条件服从的忠心部下永兆和纯朴的俊亨,警卫员元泰以及海兵出身的司机相旭,不知原因的四位部下在周课长的命令下在各自的位置上等待着金部长的枪声……  虽然是所有人都知道的事件,但是什么也不知道的“那些人”的故事从这里刚刚开始!

简介: Fraught with over obvious symbolism, Hartley's early feature is nonetheless a joy to watch. Hal here shows us his uncanny ability to cast his characters perfectly came early in his career.  Adrienne Shelley is a near perfect foil to herself, equal parts annoying teen burgeoning in her sexuality (though using sex for several years); obsessed with doom and inspired by idealism gone wrong she is deceptively – and simultaneously – complex and simple. Her Audrey inspires so many levels of symbolism it is almost embarrassingly rich (e.g., her modeling career beginning with photos of her foot – culminating her doing nude (but unseen) work; Manhattan move; Europe trip; her stealing, then sleeping with the mechanics wrench, etc.)  As Josh, Robert Burke gives an absolutely masterful performance. A reformed prisonerpenitent he returns to his home town to face down past demons, accept his lot and begin a new life. Dressed in black, and repeatedly mistaken for a priest, he corrects everyone (I'm a mechanic), yet the symbolism is rich he abstains from alcohol, he practices celibacy (is, in fact a virgin), and seemingly has taken on vows of poverty, and humility as well. The humility seems hardest to swallow seeming, at times, almost false, a pretense. Yet, as we learn more of Josh we see genuineness in his modesty, that his humility is indeed earnest and believable. What seems ironic is the character is fairly forthright in his simplicity, yet so richly drawn it becomes the viewer who wants to make him out as more than what he actually is. A fascinatingly written character, perfectly played.  The scene between Josh and Jane (a wonderful, young Edie Falco . . . You need a woman not a girl) is hilarious . . . real. But Hartley can't leave it as such and his trick, having the actors repeat the dialogue over-and-over becomes frustratingly arty and annoying . . . until again it becomes hilarious. What a terrific sense of bizarre reality this lends the film (like kids in a perpetual am notare too argument).  Hartley's weaves all of a small neighborhood's idiosyncrasies into a tapestry of seeming stereotypes but which delves far beneath the surface, the catalyst being that everyone believes they know what the unbelievable truth of the title is, yet no two people can agree (including our hero) on what exactly that truth is. A wonderful little movie with some big ideas.
